After high school, Lawson charged into the oil fields where laying pipelines quickly convinced him to do well in college.

  • He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he won four letters in swimming, breaking several school records along the way. He graduated in near the top of his class. After college, Lawson went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad learning train and rail yard operations in Texas.

    At the corporate level, he served as director of safety in Denver, and for a time, he chaired the Association of American Railroads Safety Section in Washington. Lawson attended executive education classes at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Now serving with Union Pacific Railroad, one of America's greatest companies, Lawson is Director of Network Operations where he helps meet the nation's demands for top quality intermodal and automotive services. Lawson is in his 41st year with the railroad.
